One of the things that has a tremendous impact on your safety when driving is having properly inflated tires. Under or over inflated tires can lead to a Connecticut auto accident and cause you to get injured.
Your tire pressure is something that can easily be monitored and taken care of, but you have to know where to look and how to determine in which direction you need to bring your tire pressure. While many newer vehicles come with technology that will keep you updated on the tire pressure of each of your tires, it is still important to check it from time to time to ensure that the technology is right.
The good news is that there is a handy way to tell if your car has been riding on improperly inflated tires or if they are just right.
When determining whether your tires are over inflated or under inflated you will need to pull over somewhere safe with good lighting. Now take a look at the treads on your tires to help you make this determination. You should look at all four tires to make sure that the pattern is the same for your whole car.
As you look at each tire, pay close attention to the tread on the tire. If the tread is wearing in the middle of the tire that is likely caused by over inflation. When a tire is overinflated the middle of the tire connects with the road first and therefore wears down before the outer edge of the tires. If you notice that the tire is wearing more on the outside of the tire, then this is an indication that the tires are consistently under inflated and the outer edges of the tires are contacting the road more frequently than the inner part of the tire.
While you’re investigating whether your tires are over or under inflated you should also notice that if there is wear on only one edge of a tire. If this is the case it is an indicator that your wheels are out of alignment and you should get your vehicle aligned.
Inflating your tires properly is one of the best things you can do to maintain your car and avoid a Connecticut auto accident. If your tires are not properly inflated, it is more likely that you will be involved in an accident.
