If you’re still considering taking your motorcycle out for a ride, we salute you as a hardcore rider that wants to extend the season as long as possible. We also want to warn you of some of the dangers that lie ahead in the coming cold weather and winter months.
There is an opportunity on some winter days to head out and ride your motorcycle, but if you don’t take good care you may find yourself running into a Connecticut motorcycle accident and getting injured in pursuit of one final ride. The good news is that if you take the proper precautions you can enjoy a ride and stay safe for many more rides to come.
-
If the weather is at all forecasted to be snowy or icy, stay off the roads. If you’re a hardcore rider you know that a motorcycle can be unpredictable on slippery roads and if there is any snow or ice in the forecast it could be a recipe for disaster to be on the roads.
-
Ride during daylight hours. During the winter months, even if there is no snow or ice around, the early morning and evenings are the most dangerous times to be on the roads. It is the time of day that black ice forms and can be deadly for you as you ride.
-
Protect against frostbite. Your ride may be invigorating for the first few miles of ice cold temperatures blasting you in the face, but any more then that and you could find yourself with frostbite after your ride. Make sure you are wearing warm clothing that protects your hands and your face especially.
-
Check your tire pressure. Underinflated tires can lead to dangerous conditions and in the winter months your tires may lose pressure without you knowing it. If you’re headed out for a long ride in the cold weather, you will want to make sure your tire pressure is checked before doing so.
We love a good ride in the brisk New England air as much as the next person, but we also want to make sure that you are guarding against a Connecticut motorcycle accident so you can enjoy many more rides in the coming years. If you follow these safety protocols you will be safer and enjoy the ride of your life.
