If you’ve ever ventured out on the Connecticut roadways you know that there are certain spots that you want to try to avoid at all costs. You’re not the only one that has noticed, in fact, a recent survey done nationwide found that six of the nation’s worst bottlenecks are right here in the state of Connecticut. Bottlenecks are not only frustrating, they can also worsen the risk of a Connecticut auto accident.
In a recent survey by the American Transportation Research Institute Connecticut was found to have six of the nation's 100 worst bottlenecks. That means in the third smallest state in the country you’ll find six percent of the worst traffic spots in the country.
The bottlenecks that were identified in the survey included:
- #14: I-84 at I-91 in Hartford
- #43: I-95 in Stamford
- #47: I-95 in Norwalk
- #56: I-95 at I-91 in New Haven
- #64: I-84 at Route 8 in Waterbury
- #74: I-95 at Route 8 in Bridgeport
With heavy tractor trailer traffic and pass-through traffic from other states these bottlenecks represent not only a stain on the state of Connecticut, but also a hazard that stands in the way of commuters and travelers alike getting to their destinations safely.
There is good news though, as these bottlenecks are addressed, like the recent widening of I-84 in Waterbury, commute times diminish and safety concerns are reviewed and resolved. Connecticut auto accidents can happen on any roadway, but bottlenecks make them much more likely.
