If you are injured on the job and it leads to an injury that is so severe that you cannot return to your job, what are you supposed to do? First, you should file your Connecticut workers’ compensation claim and collect the benefits that are due to you. The good news after that is that your employer is required to find you suitable work, if you so desire.
When you’ve exhausted your permanent partial disability and you still cannot return to your original job, Connecticut statute provides you the right to suitable work. In other words, your employer must find you another job within the company that you can accomplish providing it does not interfere with an existing labor contract.
Your employer is not only required to find you suitable work, but it should be full-time if possible so you can get back to work and contribute to the company.
While it may not always be possible for your employer to find you suitable work at the company after an injury they must make every attempt to do so. If an attempt is made and work cannot be found, the Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Commission offers job retraining for anyone who’s injury does not allow them to return to the same type of work he/she had before.
