Holiday weekends, especially those during the summer months are often considered some of the deadliest times to travel because there are so many more vehicles on the road, but this year was a little bit different.
Connecticut State Police released statistics for the 4th of July holiday weekend and the results were encouraging and if they hold true for the Labor Day weekend there could be a significant decline in incidents on Connecticut roadways during the summer holidays.
During the 4th of July weekend which encompassed the time period from July 1st to July 7th, the following incidents occurred:
-
105 Connecticut auto accidents (248 in 2019)
-
2,290 calls for service
-
14 DUI arrests (50 in 2019)
-
299 hazardous moving violations (652 in 2019)
As you can see, if you compare these numbers to those that were seen over the same time span in 2019 it is a significant drop-off. If this same type of decline occurs over Labor Day weekend this year the summer of 2020 will be among the summers with the lowest levels of incidents in recent memory.
