Spring weather brings out pedestrians and cyclists on Connecticut roadways. Cyclists in particular present a new hazard to driving that did not exist in earnest during the winter months. While cyclists should be alert and aware of their surroundings, you too, as a driver, should be aware of this new risk.
Cyclists are required to follow the rules of the road, but they are not always doing that, this can present a danger for a Connecticut auto accident. Here are some ways you can stay alert and avoid cyclists on the road.
Always use your turn signal. While you should do this no matter who is on the road, using your turn signal will prevent a collision with a cyclist who may be turning in the opposite direction as you.
Pay special attention at intersections. With cyclists sharing intersections with cars you must pay particular attention to their hand signals and be extra cautious in the intersection.
Watch for cyclists backing out of hidden driveways. Driveways that are hidden by bushes make it particularly difficult to see cyclists riding out into the road. Slow down when you come across a hidden driveway.
It is important that cars and bikes share the roadways so all can be safe. As the spring weather approaches this becomes even more important.
