The holidays are a time of some merriment and excitement. There are, however, some extras this time of year that can pose a risk of injury.
- Don't go overboard on food and drinks. One of the biggest reasons people end up in the ER is overindulging in the treats and drinks available at parties. Stay the course of moderation to avoid a trip to your ER.
- Take it easy on the decorations. Taking decorating to the extreme is something that can land you in the ER. Being high up on a ladder on a hard, frozen ground or worse, ice, can cause serious injury.
- Lack of medication. Another reason people end up in the ER is because their physician has reduced their office hours and didn't plan to get a prescription refill. Not taking medication prescribed to you can land you in the ER.
- Cardiac issues. While they do not generally increase during the holiday season, they can become an issue if you find yourself getting light headed or short of breath. If that is the case, get yourself to the ER to get checked out.
- Kitchen injuries. Prepping food for lots of company causes us to move quickly in the kitchen and potentially cause serious injury. Go slow and steady.
