When you are injured at work you may file a Connecticut workers’ compensation claim and may be eligible for what are known as permanent partial disability benefits. These benefits will assist you in your medical bills as well as lost wages during the time you are out of work due to the injury you have sustained.
In Connecticut, there is statute that dictates how long you will receive benefits relating to your particular injury. If you have experienced one of the following injuries while at work, you will be entitled to the lengthiest benefits available:
- Back injury (520 weeks)
- Brain injury (520 weeks)
- Heart (520 weeks)
- Pancreas injury (416 weeks)
- Liver (347 weeks)
Permanent partial disability benefits are awarded to the injured party based on a grid that is provided by the Workers’ Compensation Commission and is publicly available here.
The weeks represented in this chart are the maximum allowable benefits to be paid out to claimants. For instance, if you had a mild back accident, you may not automatically receive 520 weeks of benefits for your injury. One area of dispute between the employer and the employee is the severity of the injury and the length of the disability benefits. If this becomes an issue it can lead to an Informal Hearing.
