When talking about Connecticut car accidents there is often a focus on how to remain safe on the highway, but rural roads can be just as dangerous and in some cases even more dangerous than traveling on highways. While the speeds may not always be fast, there is, unfortunately, a lot of danger that can occur on a rural road.
It is important when thinking about the dangers of rural roads to keep a few things in mind. First, when you’re driving on a rural road the area will be less populated so if you get into a serious car accident it will be important to have a way to contact emergency services. If you do a lot of traveling on rural roads you should make certain that your cell phone is always charged and ready in the event of an emergency.
Second, when thinking about rural roads you may have a particular idea of what the road will look like and be like to drive on, but the truth is that almost all rural roads have their own unique paths and twists and turns. There is very little predictability when it comes to rural roads and therefore you need to be prepared for anything when you’re passing along these roads. If you’re not prepared for anything then you may be more prone to making a mistake and getting into an accident.
As with any type of road it is critical that you do not drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It is also important that if you are driving along a rural road you are not drowsy in any way because you cannot afford to have a slowed reaction time.
When you are driving in a rural area, keep in mind that the following types of accidents may be more likely to occur.
-
Head-on collisions. When you are traveling on a rural road you are likely not separated in any way from the on-coming traffic and therefore a head-on collision may be more likely. It is also important to understand that these roads are often more narrow and leave very little room for drifting from one side of your lane or another and therefore can leave you vulnerable to hitting the vehicle that is coming towards you.
-
Animal collisions. While you are not guaranteed that you won’t come in contact with an animal while driving on the highway, the chances are that an accident involving an animal is more likely on a rural road. After all, the road you are traveling on is likely passing through the habitat of the animal that you may be coming in contact with.
-
Speeding accidents. You may find this hard to believe, but it is true, there is more of a chance that you will get into an accident while speeding on a rural road than on any highway. The reason for this is that most people believe that there are less likely to be police officers tracking speed along rural roads and therefore they will not be checked and/or stopped. This, of course, is a dangerous mentality to have because speed kills, but it is another type of accident that often occurs on rural roads.
While any type of Connecticut car accident can occur on any road, it is important to be aware of the dangers that you might face if you are driving along a rural road. If you know the dangers you can do more to protect yourself against them and reduce your chances of getting into one of these types of accidents in the future.
