A recently released report by the Connecticut Department of Labor detailed a sharp rise in the number of workplace related deaths in the state of Connecticut in 2018. That same report also looked at what were the most common reasons for death and found some interesting numbers.
The study reported that there were 48 total deaths in 2018 alone, but the number over the course of the four years was even more disturbing as there were 190 lives lost between the years of 2014-2018. These workplace deaths occurred in a variety of ways including the following;
- Transportation Accidents (36% of deaths)
- Violence and injuries by persons (21% of deaths)
- Falls, Slips, and Trips (18% of deaths)
- Other accidents (14% of deaths)
- Contact with equipment (11% of deaths)
It is critical data for the state to have when combatting this alarming rise in workplace deaths. As these numbers continue to rise, safety has become an even greater concern for workers and all protocols must be followed.
If your spouse or loved one was a victim of a workplace death you may be eligible to file a Connecticut workers’ compensation claim and access survivor benefits. While this may be an incredible painful time and may be very emotional, time is of the essence to ensure that your loved one’s employer is held responsible under the law for his/her death.
