If you’re injured at work you are allowed by law to be compensated for that injury and any time at your job that you miss due to the injury. Therefore, it is incumbent upon your employer to take steps to keep you safe and free from injury. It is also in your employer’s best interest to put you in situations where you can remain on the job and not injured.
Assuming your employer does put you in positions to do your job safely and free from injury, you should take the next additional steps to keep yourself free from harm and make sure that you can stay on the job. Here are a few things you can do to make sure you are keeping yourself safe.
-
Always get a good night's sleep. Being overtired can lead to mistakes and mistakes on the job can often lead to injuries. If you are not getting the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep a night you should work on improving your sleep habits so you can show up to work well-rested.
-
Make sure you are always trained in the latest safety procedures. If your employer is offering safety training and are making them optional, take them anyway. Knowing how to keep yourself safe at work is one of the first steps you can take to prevent injury.
-
Always use proper equipment and safety gear to do the job right and not get injured. If you are doing a job that requires that you wear eye protection, for instance, don’t cut corners and skip the eye protection. All safety gear should be worn at all times to keep you free from injury.
No matter whether or not your employer has provided you with the proper safety training and equipment and no matter whether or not you have used this equipment and done so properly, accidents can still happen. Accidents often lead to Connecticut workers’ compensation injuries and can leave you out of work for extended periods of time.
