If, while on the job, you find yourself injured and you perform the critical first step of reporting your injury to your employer, that employer is required by law to send you for medical attention. The medical attention you receive at the time of your injury can be at a location that is at the discretion of your employer.
There are a number of options that are available to you as the injured employee including;
- A company’s own medical facility
- A walk-in clinic
- A hospital
- A designated physician
Being seen for your initial injury at one of these locations is a critical second step when you’ve been injured on the job.
While your employer may not dictate who you see for on-going medical care for your injury after your initial treatment, if they have a designated medical provider you must accept treatment from that provider for your initial treatment. On-going medical care can be provided by your choice of doctor after you are initially treated.
