The Connecticut Department of Labor reported that in 2018 the number of workplace deaths in the state of Connecticut reached an eight year high. The number of deaths due to workplace injuries rose from 35 deaths in 2017 to a staggering 48 deaths in 2018.
According to the same report by the Department of Labor deaths between 2014 and 2018 that occured in the workplace reached 190.
The number of deaths reported in 2018 was the fifth highest number reported since 1992. The highest annual reporting of workplace deaths came in 1998 when there were 57 deaths reported due to workplace injuries.
Connecticut saw a 23 percent increase in workplace related deaths in 2018 compared with the average number of deaths the state has seen over the past 26 years.
