Connecticut workers’ compensation claims can take on all forms. Injuries at work can be mild to severe and everything in between. There are also a wide category of injuries that happen on the job, but what is the injury type that leads to the most amount of days off for employees?
The answer, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is sprains, strains, and tears. This category of injury made up about 33% of all workplace related injuries in 2018 and resulted in the most time away from work for those involved in the injuries. Of those who were affected by this type of workplace injury, 23% were seen at an emergency room and 1% were admitted to a hospital.
In total there were 333,930 workplace injuries that resulted in employees missing days from work in 2018. While sprains, strains, and tears led to the most days off, they weren’t the only injuries that required time away from work. Other injuries that required time away from work included:
-
Soreness and pain
-
Fractures
-
Cuts and lacerations
