According to the Connecticut Transportation Safety Research Center at the University of Connecticut teens who have been involved in a Connecticut auto accident this year are experiencing the lowest number of fatalities within the last five years.
These numbers are encouraging but not conclusive that teen drivers have become safer and therefore accidents are being limited. In fact, accidents among teens are still more prevalent by a factor of 3 then by older drivers.
This new set of statistics released by the Connecticut Transportation Safety Research Center at UCONN are promising though. The numbers for the last 5 years are as follows:
2015 — 32
2016 — 35
2017 — 30
2018 — 38
2019 — 12
If these statistics continue to bear out, the number of fatalities involving teen drivers could drop by 10 or more by the end of 2019. While just one fatality is too many, these numbers are encouraging that education of teen drivers and new laws put in place to protect teen drivers are working.
