It may not be something that crosses your mind very often when you head out to buy groceries or clothes. You may not be thinking about the dangers that are presented to shoppers each and every day. It is not something you should be thinking about non-stop, but you should be aware that there are great dangers to being out shopping, especially in November.
The month of November in this area is often a “transition” month for the seasons. Transition months can lead to Connecticut slip and fall accidents in a number of different ways leaving you injured after a trip to the store.
So why is November a particularly dangerous month to be out shopping?
-
Crowded stores mean more chances to be in crowded spaces which can lead to unsafe shopping conditions. If you are in a crowded space, there is a greater likelihood that you will trip and fall and injure yourself.
-
The weather is unpredictable. It could be raining when you go into a store to shop and while you’re in there the temperature outside could drop and that rain could turn into ice. Icy parking lots are notorious for causing serious injuries to pedestrians walking to and from their cars.
-
The weather has a tendency to be brought indoors as well this time of year. In November, many people will be coming and going from a store and if there is rain outside, you can rest assured that the floors inside the store are going to be wet and slippery and unless they are properly marked they can cause you to get injured.
-
Empty shelves can lead to you needing to reach and stretch for an item. If you can see the item you want, but the store shelves where it normally sits are empty you may be inclined to reach for the item and pull it down off it’s high perch. Doing this can lead to injury from both the item falling or from you stretching and slipping, causing an accident.
Don’t forget that not only does shopper volume pick up early in the month of November, towards the end of the month is Black Friday and this can be a brutal day to be in stores. There are so many potential areas for a Connecticut slip and fall accident on Black Friday that you almost should just avoid the stores if you can all together.
