3 Ways To Change Your Physician During Your Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Claim

After you have filed your Connecticut workers’ compensation claim your initial medical visit must be with the employer-designated medical practitioner. Once you’ve had your initial visit you can then choose your own attending physician for the remainder of your medical needs throughout your claim.

There may come a time when you will want to change your physician.  There are three ways in which you can change your attending physician during your claim. They include;

  1. Have your current attending physician give you a referral to your new preferred medical practitioner
  2. Petition the employer’s insurance company to make the change
  3. Provide a reason for your change to the Workers’ Compensation Commissioner that has jurisdiction over your claim. You will need to provide contact details about both the attending physician you are requesting to leave and the physician you would like to switch to. This will result in either the commissioner responding to your request via mail or by scheduling an informal hearing.

It is critical that you do not just change physicians without notifying anyone of the change because if you do that you may become liable for any medical charges accrued by visiting a physician who has not been put through the proper channels.
