Avoid A Connecticut Motorcycle Accident This Spring With These Prep Steps

While we had an unusually warm winter this year here in the Nutmeg State there are still some things that you will want to do to prepare your motorcycle for the spring, even if you took it out to cherish some of the warmth this winter.  If you want to avoid a Connecticut motorcycle accident you can take these steps to get your bike ready for the even warmer weather that’s on the horizon.

Every rider has their favorite season to hop on their bike and ride, but the spring often shows up at the top of many lists.  The pent up desire to ride during the chillier winter months probably contributes to that as does the safer roads that aren’t icy or snowy.  It doesn’t matter if spring is your favorite season to ride or just another of the four seasons that you always have your bike out on the road, it’s important to take some steps to get it ready to ride for this season.

Here are a few steps you can take to make sure your motorcycle is safe and comfortable to ride.

Step #1: Flush your gas tank.  If you did not do this when you put your bike away after your last ride, you will want to do it before your first ride of the season.  If you drain the gas from your tank and it is filled with brown grit you may want to flush your gas tank with an acid remover to alleviate any rust that has built up in the tank.

Step #2: Change the oil.  This is something you should do regularly, but especially when your motorcycle has been sitting for a long time.  Even if you don’t feel the need to change the oil (for instance if you already did this before you put the bike away for the winter) make sure you at least check the oil level to confirm that you have enough for the engine to run smoothly.

Step #3: Examine your electrical systems.  Making sure that all your gauges and lights work properly is so important before you head out on the road.  You should check your gas gauge, headlight and taillight, turn signals and the horn to make sure they are all functioning as expected.

These three steps are very important for a safe ride, but there are also some things you should do or if you don’t feel comfortable doing them yourself you should have a mechanic do them, like checking your fluids, your brake pads and making sure that if your bike has a chain it is oiled and ready to ride.

If you take these steps you will be taking the proper precautions to make sure you are less likely to get yourself into a Connecticut motorcycle accident.  Of course, taking these steps does not guarantee your safety, but these steps will make sure you are riding a bike that is being taken care of and is safe to ride in the first place.
