Working Hard for the Hardworking People of Connecticut

Braking Hard? Not If Google Maps Has Anything To Say About It

If you’ve ever used the Google Maps app you’re not alone.  Throughout the world there are over a billion people who rely on the app to get them to and from their destination efficiently and safely.

GPS apps and mapping really haven’t taken a giant leap forward in technology in many years, until now.  Google recently announced a change in how it will calculate your route via it’s algorithm in an effort to make it so you are less likely to brake hard and therefore are more likely to be able to avoid a Connecticut auto accident.

The app currently takes into account a few different factors when determining your best route to take to get to your destination.  Some of these factors include;

  • How many lanes a road has

  • How direct a route is

  • How heavy the traffic along a particular route is

  • The time in which it is expected you will arrive at your destination

Now Google is adding another factor to the mix of items it uses to show you the recommended route for your travel.  The new factor is determining how likely a route is to have traffic that may require you to brake hard.  The technology for this feature was developed in partnership with experts at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute.

This new feature in Google Maps may not be something that you notice when using the application on a daily basis, but the behind the scenes work that is being done to keep you safe and avoid a Connecticut auto accident is something that will be invaluable to your route.  There are other new features that will roll-out in the next few months which you can read more about here.

If you use Google Maps or any other GPS app to get directions and arrive at your destination on time and safely, we want to remind you that these apps should be set with your destination while you are parked, before you set out on the road.  Distracted driving can lead to serious injuries and if you have experienced an accident due to distracted driving you may need an attorney to review your case.  Contact our office.
