Can I File A Connecticut Workers’ Compensation For Remote Work?

In this environment more and more people are working from home on a regular basis.  This includes everything from office workers to TV personalities and many jobs in between.  The types of work that is being done from home now encompasses a wide swath of the general working population.

Inevitably the question has come up about whether or not injuries that occur while working from home would qualify as a Connecticut workers’ compensation claim.

Working from home is not new, but it is far more prevalent now than it ever has been so the law must come to terms with the possibility that injuries can occur while employees are working from home.  Whether it be repetitive stress injuries or a slip and fall injury that occurs in the course of your employee performing his/her work related duties there are incidences where injuries that happen when you are working remotely.

The short answer to this question is, yes you can file a claim if you are injured in a work related incident while working remotely.  The steps you would take to file a complaint normally would apply.  You should tell your immediate supervisor as soon as the injury occurs and he/she will file the necessary paperwork.

It is possible that a claim that is filed for an injury that occurred during remote work will be denied by your employer and if that is the case you can certainly appeal to have the claim approved.  If you run into a situation like that, you may need a board certified workers’ compensation attorney to review your case.  Contact our office and one of our attorneys will do just that.
