Connecticut Auto Accidents Can Lead To A Variety Of Brain Injuries

Not all brain injuries are created equal and we are working to shed light on the differences that arise with some of these types of injuries.  One way that brain injuries often occur are during Connecticut auto accidents which can lead to serious injuries in the blink of an eye.

It is important to understand that these types of accidents that lead to brain injuries, in many cases, are preventable.  While accidents  happen there are things that you can do while behind the wheel of your vehicle that can help avoid serious accidents that lead to brain injuries;

  1. Do not text or call while driving.

  2. Drive at or below the speed limit.  Excessive speeding is a determining factor in the severity of an accident.

  3. Do not drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  4. Always wear a seatbelt.

Following the above safety steps will help protect you from a serious accident that could lead to a brain injury, but they will not guarantee your safety.  If you do get into an accident you may experience one of the following types of injuries that will require medical attention.

  1. Concussion.  Symptoms like nausea, vomiting and blurred vision are often associated with a concussion.  This type of injury is generally caused by a strong blow to the head.

  2. Brain contusion.  When you are in a car accident your brain can jolt forward or backward and collide with your skull causing a bruise on your brain which can lead to long-term medical issues.

  3. Fractured skull.  As the name might suggest this injury occurs when a collision is severe enough that it causes your skull to become damaged.  As you might imagine this is a severe brain injury and in some cases can be deadly.

  4. Brain penetration.  This is a brain injury that is deadly.  When an object becomes lodged in your head and penetrates the skull into the brain, it is likely to kill you.  This is the most serious of all brain injuries.

Knowing is half the battle and now you need to take the necessary steps to keep yourself safe when you are driving.  If you are working to maintain your safety and avoid a Connecticut auto accident you can be hopeful that you will never have to experience this type of injury or the long road to recovery that comes with one of these very serious injuries.
