Working Hard for the Hardworking People of Connecticut

Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Fraud Case Is A Reminder To All

When working as a corrections officer for the state of Connecticut, a West Hartford man was injured.  This injury led to the man being put on Temporary Total Disability status after his Connecticut workers’ compensation claim. This status is meant to identify someone who is physically unable to return to work of any kind.

This West Hartford man, while collecting benefits for his injury, was also running a restaurant in Massachusetts where he was caught and charged with workers’ compensation fraud.

The situation described above happened recently, but it is not a case that is rare.  Unfortunately workers’ compensation fraud does happen and it is often uncovered by the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Control Bureau for the state of Connecticut.  This department of the government is tasked with tracking down those who are abusing the system that is in place for those are who are injured on the job.

This case and the ensuing fraud charges are a good reminder that defrauding the system is illegal and always a bad idea.  Going through the proper channels to get your due compensation and then following the rules set forth by the Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Commission is the right way to go about receiving benefits and protecting your rights as a worker.

Cases like the one above will be investigated to the fullest extent of the law including utilizing surveillance video and document tracing so that the system is not defrauded.  If you’ve been injured on the job you can file a workers’ compensation claim and be compensated for your injuries, fairly, through the system.

If you’ve been injured on the job you may want to have a board certified attorney review your claim to ensure you are following all expected guidance on the terms of your claim.  Contact our office immediately and we can review your case.
