The Deadliest Times For A Connecticut Motorcycle Accident

The United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Safety Administration released a report that looked at motorcycle deaths in 2020 and what time of day were the deadliest for these types of accidents.  In general, these statistics can be used to inform safety measures that all motorcycle drivers take to avoid a Connecticut motorcycle accident right here at home.

The statistics that were reported indicate that annually the average number of motorcycle deaths are highest during certain times of day.  The report did not indicate if these numbers increased or decreased with other factors that could also be impactful to the nature of motorcycle accidents throughout the year.

When you’re thinking about riding your motorcycle and the safety measures you should take you should consider time of day as just one factor in your decision making process.  Other factors may include things like time of the year, weather conditions and traffic volume, to just name a few.  With that in mind, here is a look at the 2020 statistics on motorcycle deaths reported out by the National Highway Safety Administration based on the time of day that these accidents occur.

● Good news first, the rate of motorcycle accidents that result in death is lowest in the early morning hours.  Under 25% of all motorcycle deaths happen between the hours of midnight and noon time.  By the numbers, this is the safest time to travel on a motorcycle.

● The middle part of the day is when motorcycle accidents that result in deaths occur at a greater rate, but there are still fewer deaths between noon and 3pm (just over 16%) than there are later in the evening.

● The deadliest part of the day, when you should proceed with the most caution, is between 3pm and midnight.  It is during this time of the day that the vast majority of motorcycle deaths happen.  In fact, from 3pm-midnight a staggering 60% of all motorcycle deaths will take place in this time frame.

As is with all statistics, these numbers should be used as one data point on a wide scale of information that informs when and how you drive your motorcycle.  Factors like weather related conditions and daylight savings time may alter these numbers throughout the year making them less accurate at certain times on the calendar.  The main thing to do to protect yourself from a Connecticut motorcycle accident is to take all safety measures, including wearing a helmet, so you can protect yourself and avoid any incident, let alone one that results in your death.
