Prevent A Connecticut Auto Accident With These Tips For Driving On Wet Roads

When Connecticut roadways get wet in the spring and summer months it changes the way you should drive just a little bit.  Driving on wet roads can significantly change the way you drive compared to dry roads or even snowy roads.

Wet roads present different challenges than any other road condition.  If you follow some of these steps below you will have a much safer ride and be able to avoid getting into an accident throughout the spring and summer months.

  1. Use your headlights.  Driving in the rain can present night-like conditions where you can’t see or be seen very well without your headlights.  It is recommended that you drive with your headlights on whenever it is raining to improve your visibility and to be seen better by other drivers on the road.

  2. Brake lightly.  Hitting the brakes hard, while sometimes unavoidable, should be avoided at every cost when driving on wet roads.  Slamming on your brakes can lead to hydroplaning which can lead to a serious accident.

  3. Do not drive through standing water.  Even if a puddle looks like it is not too deep, standing water can be very dangerous and can lead to either an accident or having you and your car stuck and in need of rescue.  It is best to avoid any puddles as best as you can.

  4. Keep your distance.  Following behind cars too closely can lead to the need for hard braking which will lead to an accident.  A safe distance in the rain is at least two car lengths behind the car in front of you.

  5. Use your blinkers.  While it is always important to use your blinkers when turning or changing lanes, during inclement weather it can be even more important.  Take the time to use your turn signal.

Driving in any type of weather has it’s challenges, but in particular driving in spring and summer rain storms can lead to Connecticut auto accidents when you’re not driving safely.  If you follow the above tips you will be putting yourself and your loved ones in a good position to avoid accidents all together.
