Reckless Driver Takes Flight In New Haven And Causes Major Connecticut Auto Accident

It’s not every day that you see a vehicle flying through the air and landing on top of another vehicle, but that’s just what happened when people in New Haven saw a gold Ford Taurus launch into the air and cause a pile up with six other vehicles before landing on top of an SUV.  The incident was one of the more stunning Connecticut auto accidents in recent memory and luckily no one was seriously injured.

The incident occurred when the vehicle attempted to pull into traffic after having been double parked in front of a store when it recklessly jumped the iron railing and took flight before settling on its final resting place.  The driver was charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain the lane.

People who were involved in the incident were lucky to escape reasonably unscathed with only minor injuries.  The accident was a good reminder that no matter where you are or what speed you are traveling at you are sharing the road with others and accidents do happen.  There are some steps you can take to avoid this type of accident and keep yourself and your passengers safe.

  1. Always park in a marked spot.  Double parking is one way to put yourself in a position where you may have to make bad decisions to get back into the flow of traffic.  If you are double parked you also put other drivers on the defensive and can leave them not as willing to yield to you as you pull out into traffic.

  2. Pay close attention to the traffic around you.  Being distracted in anyway when you are behind the wheel of a vehicle is dangerous, but especially when you are trying to get yourself back into traffic after having been stationary for a little while.  If you’re not paying attention to the traffic you are trying to enter, the traffic is likely not paying attention to you and trouble can ensue.

  3. Do not change lanes without proper signaling.  If you are changing lanes, especially from a standpoint of being stationary before you get into another lane, you will need to always signal.  If you do not signal it can cause havoc on the on-coming traffic and end you up in a situation that could cause you serious harm or injury.

Most Connecticut auto accidents do not end up in a situation where a car goes airborne and hits a number of other cars before landing on a parked car nearby, but nonetheless there are accidents that are less spectacular that lead to dangerous injuries.  Therefore, it is critical that you, as the driver, do everything you can to keep yourself and your passengers safe.  If you do that you will be in a situation to drive without incident.
