Slippery Floors Still A Hazard For Connecticut Slip And Fall Accidents In The Spring

We spend a lot of time talking about the dangers of experiencing a Connecticut slip and fall injury during the winter months when icy sidewalks can lead to treacherous conditions.  You might not be quite as aware of the dangers of walking during the Spring when sidewalks and walkways can be wet from the heavy rains we often get.

Beyond sidewalks and walkways, serious injury can occur inside big box stores that have slippery floors already, add in the effect of pedestrians walking into the store and tracking the wet from the outside into the store and you have a recipe for disaster.  Stores should identify slippery sections of floor so that their patrons stay safe when shopping, however they do not always do that.  Here are a few ways to avoid slippery floors inside stores during the Spring months.

  1. Be aware of the floor around you.  If you’re coming in from a wet parking lot, be aware that the entranceway floor will likely be saturated.  This is not the only place that will be wet throughout the store, so be aware as you walk around the entire store.

  2. Walk gingerly in high traffic areas.  Take for instance the deli in a grocery store.  There are a lot of people congregating at the deli counter which can lead to water puddling on the floor.  Be careful in high traffic areas.

  3. Wipe your feet before you enter the store.  This may not be something that you typically do before entering a store, but getting your shoes as dry as possible before entering the store will help you avoid adding to the puddling and keep yourself safer then you otherwise would be.

Getting injured as a result of a Connecticut slip and fall accident may not be something that you often think about in the Spring, but it is something you should consider, especially when it rains heavily.
