Working Hard for the Hardworking People of Connecticut

Summer Travel Season May Result In Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Injuries For Hospitality Workers

For a lot of people the summer is a time to get out and visit new locations and get away from the daily hustle and bustle of life, but for hospitality workers it can be a busy time where hustle and bustle is the name of the game.  Those that are working in hotels, restaurants, airports and more are busy this time of the year and busy can often lead to injuries at the workplace which may result in a Connecticut workers’ compensation claim.

Whether you’re a 30 year veteran of the hospitality industry or you’re a seasonal worker brought on for the summer rush you may be in a situation that will leave you vulnerable to an injury.  Workers in all businesses are susceptible to the ups and downs of a workplace that is flooded with new customers each and every day and this can lead to mistakes or accidents that could cause a serious injury.

If you’re interacting with guests who are expecting a certain level of service on their vacation you will need to remain professional and follow all safety procedures to keep them safe and yourself safe as well.  However, accidents do happen and you may run into a situation where you get injured in the course of doing your work.  Some of the injuries you should be on the lookout for include;

  1. Back or neck pain.  There is a lot of physical work that comes with working in the hospitality industry.  Whether you’re working in the back of a kitchen at a restaurant or changing sheets in a hotel room you may be doing a lot of bending and lifting which can lead to serious strains or injuries to your back or neck.  These injuries require rest and time to heal and if you’re not given that proper amount of rest they could worsen over time.  If you experience this type of injury you will want to report it to your supervisor as soon as possible.

  2. Cuts and lacerations.  Almost any role in the hospitality industry could put you in a situation where you experience a cut or a laceration.  You could be working loading bags into an airplane and get cut or be a sous chef in a restaurant kitchen, among other jobs that could lead to this type of injury.  Experiencing a cut can be painful and cause significant mobility issues for you which could lead you to not be able to perform the duties of your job.  If this is the case you may need to take some time away from your work until you have heeled.

  3. Burns.  When you’re thinking about a role that might leave you with a severe burn that could keep you out of work you might think of someone working in a restaurant kitchen and that certainly is a place where this can happen, but burns can happen in a variety of jobs and when they do they can be extremely painful and lead to time away from work.  When you are burned at your job you should never ignore it and try to fight through it, you should be seen by a medical provider and report it to your employer as soon as possible.

It doesn’t matter what role you are performing in the hospitality industry you may get injured which can lead to a Connecticut workers’ compensation claim.  You can do everything correctly and follow all of the proper safety procedures and you still may find yourself injured from your job.  Jobs in the hospitality industry are hard and dangerous and accidents happen all of the time.  Do your best to keep yourself safe and then make sure to report your injury if it happens at work.
