The Three Characteristics Of A Connecticut Pedestrian Accident

Walking down the street can be a dangerous way to get around town.  It is imperative that as a pedestrian you are on the lookout for dangers and are following all safety precautions including street lights and signs, crosswalks, and sidewalks.

Did you know there are three other things you can do to avoid a Connecticut pedestrian accident?  It is true that following all of the rules of the road are critical, but according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation there are three characteristics of most pedestrian accidents that can be avoided and thus keep you safe.  In general, most pedestrian accidents occur due to the following characteristics;

  1. On local roads

  2. At night

  3. Away from intersections

While the first two seem to make sense that there are more pedestrians out on local roads and  it can be more challenging to see at night, the third one requires a little more inspection.

Crossing a street at an intersection can quite literally save your life.  With all the safety precautions that an intersection provides like, street lights to slow traffic down, cross walks to clearly mark where you are crossing and signs to prevent you from crossing illegally, intersections create the safest environment for a pedestrian to cross.  Not crossing the street at an intersection is more likely to cause a Connecticut pedestrian accident and in fact, can be deadly.

Whether you walk to work or are stopping at a local store to pick something up, being out on local roads can be dangerous.  If you were injured as a pedestrian you may want to reach out to our office to have an experienced attorney review your case.
