Working Hard for the Hardworking People of Connecticut

Top Workplace Injuries For Landscapers

Landscaping and groundskeeping crews are out in full force this time of year with many seasonal hires on their teams.  Many companies have a wide array of experience levels for their employees.  However, whether you are a new hire or an experienced landscaper or groundskeeper there are quite a few types of injuries that may result in a Connecticut workers’ compensation claim.

When you are working, if you are injured, your length of service to the company is not taken into account.  You could be on the job and get injured on your first day or your 1,000th day and you will still be able to file a claim.  That being said, more experienced workers generally do have a better grasp on the safety protocols that are put in place by companies to allow work to be done in a safe manner.  More experienced workers may have a tendency to become lackadaisical and cut corners which can also lead to injuries.  Therefore, it is important that workers of all experience levels pay close attention to safety protocols.

Some injuries that occur can be serious enough to lead to a fatality and these are the injuries that are most likely to lead to a fatality, as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in the field of landscaping and groundskeeping;

  1. Violence or other injuries by persons or animals

  2. Transportation incidents

  3. Fires and explosions

  4. Slips, trips, and falls

  5. Exposure to harmful substances or environments

  6. Contact with objects and equipment

Between the years of 2015 and 2019 the BLS reported that there were 611 fatalities in these fields.  That averages out to about 122 fatalities per year.  This is a serious level of fatalities that occurs in the landscaping and groundskeeping fields and should be taken as a cautionary tale to those that are currently working in these fields.

Injuries can occur in all manners and at all severity levels when working in the landscaping or groundskeeping industry.  Whether you get a minor laceration that may keep you from doing your job or a chemical exposure that requires an extended time away from your craft, you may need to file a Connecticut workers’ compensation claim.
