What Are Punitive Damages In A Connecticut Personal Injury Case?

A Connecticut personal injury case can include many types of accidents and injuries.  You could be in an auto accident and file a personal injury case.  You can experience a dog bite or slip and fall at the grocery store.  These and many other types of accidents are considered personal injury cases.

In a personal injury case, there are a variety of types of damages that you may be able to recover.  One type of damages is what is called punitive.  Punitive damages are meant to punish a person whose activities were reckless or intentional in nature.

Punitive damages are applied to a case where the defendant’s actions are deemed intentional or in some cases, reckless.  The way these damages are calculated is not directly associated with the injury, but instead they are intended to prevent the defendant or other persons from taking part in similar activities in the future.

When someone commits an intentional or reckless act that leads to you or your loved one experiencing an injury they can be punished under the law with additional monetary damages.
