What Is A Job Safety Analysis And Why You Should Always Perform One Before Starting A Project

If there are any aspects of your job that might be considered dangerous you should always perform what experts call a job safety analysis.  This type of analysis should be done at the start of every project and is generally used to ensure that all those who are part of the project are on the same page and are clear on the safety measures that are required for operating particular machinery.  Performing this type of analysis before the start of a project can go a long way in reducing the chances that you might experience a workplace injury and need to file a Connecticut workers’ compensation claim.

Take for instance a project that requires that you must be harnessed in order to climb to a specific height to inspect a piece of equipment.  A job safety analysis would require that you check that the harness is capable of holding you, that it is fastened properly, and that it is connected in a way that will keep you safe as you climb to higher heights.  If any of these things are not true, the job should be paused until they can be corrected.

Not performing a job safety analysis could be the difference between performing the task properly or risking serious injury or death.

It can be tempting to skip this step especially if it is a task that you perform regularly at your job, however it should never be skipped.  What happens if you’ve walked away from the equipment for a lunch break and while you’re gone someone else uses it for something quick.  When you come back to it it is now configured for their job and may not fit the safety protocols for your job.  This could present serious issues for you in performing the tasks of your job which could lead to injury.

If you are unclear what is involved in performing a job safety analysis for a particular job or piece of equipment you should never hesitate to ask someone who has been on the job longer than you or your immediate supervisor for help.  Not knowing is not an excuse for not performing this type of check.

Getting injured at the workplace can happen and it may lead to a Connecticut workers’ compensation claim, but there are steps you can take to avoid injuries and a job safety analysis should be one of those steps.  Take this step everytime you start a new project and you will be much better off for it.
