Why It Is More Dangerous To Be Unbuckled In The Back Seat During A Connecticut Auto Accident

The importance of wearing a seat belt in every seat in a car cannot be overstated. The good news is that an overwhelming majority of people who have been surveyed have said that they wear a seat belt regularly regardless of where they are sitting in a car.  That is good news because study after study has shown that seat belts save lives.

If you are in a Connecticut auto accident and are wearing your seatbelt you are less likely to suffer severe injury or death.  This is all good news.

The bad news is that there is still a subset of people who believe that wearing a seatbelt in the back seat is not that important.  The truth is that not wearing a seatbelt in the back seat can be just as dangerous if not more dangerous than not wearing a seatbelt in the front seat of a vehicle.

There are a number of reasons that wearing a seatbelt in the back of the vehicle is just as important as wearing a seatbelt in the front seat of the car.

  1. With more leg room and space in the backseat it is quite likely that in a crash the passengers who are in the backseat and not wearing a seatbelt will be thrown over the top of the seat in front of them and directly through a windshield.  This is an extremely dangerous position to be in and can result in serious injury or death.

  2. If left unbuckled a passenger in the backseat of a car can be thrown into the front seat, collide with the passengers in the front seat and cause even more harm to those riding up front.  This can lead to an injury for both passengers and be far more harmful than not.

  3. Your impact with the seat in front of you can push the person sitting in that seat into a more precarious situation and cause extreme harm.  If you are not buckled in the backseat your body may act like a missile that is shot into the seat in front of it and be just the amount of force needed to cause significant damage to the driver or the passenger.

The overall point here is that seatbelts save lives.  In any type of Connecticut auto accident it is important to wear a seatbelt and protect yourself against injuries that come from these types of accidents.  If you are wearing a seatbelt you are much more likely to avoid a serious injury or even worse, death.
